Also I suspect that the list of (biggest/largest/whatever) Threads usernames I saw floating past probably was put together by a Mastodon user that indeed does federate with them.
At the time of them posting the list the input then got translated in to what looks like regular profile links by the time I received it as pre-formatted html. If I type in that very same link to zucks threads profile it doesn't manage to fetch the remote user (as it did when I typed in your profile, and offered up a drop list with alternatives, and then simply wrote out your short-handle), and thus simply creates a link to it, which doesn't look like a profile link but as a regular web link.
